Visiting lecture

Την επόμενη Τρίτη θα επισκευτεί το unit μας ο Α. Χρόνης για μια σύντομη παρουσίαση και feedback στις δουλειές σας. Ο 'Αγγελος είναι design systems analyst στο SMG group των Foster+Partners και teaching assistant στο MSc AAC της Bartlett σε θέματα Processing για Morphogenetic programming και Digital ecologies.
Θα είναι ένα καλό feedback για αυτούς που κάνουν έρευνα πάνω στην βελτιστοποίηση, τους γενετικούς αλγόριθμους και συστήματα προσομοίωσης αλλά και για τις διπλωματικές που τρέχουν.

The Free Network Foundation

Ντοκυμαντέρ που εξιστορεί πως τα λεγόμενα social networks επηρεάζουν κινήματα όπως το Οccupy Wall street και την Αραβική άνοιξη.

Συγκεκριμένα, παρουσιάζει μια ομάδα φοιτητών (;) που στα πλαίσια του Occupy Wall Street δημιούργησαν το Free Network Foundation παρέχοντας δωρεάν σύνδεση με το διαδίκτυο στους συμμετέχοντες του κινήματος, προωθώντας την εκ-της-βάσης οργάνωση (from the bottom up) δίνοντας έμφαση στην δύναμη που παρέχει η ατομική δράση και αυτο-οργανούμενη ανάπτυξη ευμετάβλητων δικτυακών οργανώσεων-κοινωνικών ομάδων στα πλαίσια της ελεύθερης πρόσβασης στο διαδίκτυο, ασκώντας κριτική στην ελεγχόμενη από εταιρίες τηλεφωνικές διαμόρφωση του Διαδικτύου ως έχει σήμερα.. δε θα γράψω κεφάλαιο για το ερευνητικό στο blog ούτε θα σας το αφηγηθώ, δείτε το και όποιος ενδιαφέρεται διαμορφώνει άποψη και το συζητάμε...

Ίσως κάποιοι το έχουν ήδη δει, αυτή την Πέμπτη, στις 20:00, γίνεται μια παρουσίαση από τον Carlos Ratti και το ΜΙΤ SENSEable City Lab και θα παρουσιαστούν φοιτητικές δουλείες που εκπονήθηκαν για τη Θεσσαλονίκη.

Στα δικά μου τα λημέρια ίσως αλλά φαίνεται ενδιαφέρον....

Hyper-materialised immaterial

Re-considering the immateriality of architecture in the digital era

Abstract

Architectural materiality is the manifestation of the immaterial philosophical background of architecture. Building materials and construction techniques contain architectural ideas, which are embedded within them, controlling their proper choice and their contribution to structuring a form. The origin of these ideas is based upon the relation between the alive and the artefact, the natural and the fabricated, the human-live being and the building, the material and the immaterial. In contemporary architecture a new ethos emerges from the new content attributed to this relation with a strong impact on the materiality of the building. The paper examines the transformations of these relations in the architectural experiences of the last century and approaches the contemporary overemphasized materiality of architecture as a consequence of a new version of the conception of the building as alive.

ABSTRACT

Architecture, by its very nature a cultural creation, has always striven for the unconventional, the original, the novel and for something different to what has preceded it as a reflex to the changing needs of the society the architect is called upon to serve. Technological limitations can indeed hinder this pursuit, whilst technological advances can enable and enhance it. The originality and novelty of architectural proposals often lies in the importance of materiality. Materiality has been transformed in accordance with the value systems defined in the history of architecture; at times it has referred to the precision or the elaboration of detailing the sensory properties of materials. One of the various aspects of materiality that has concerned architects has been the way buildings stand up. The present paper will focus on the changing perceptions of architecture and the design process, as well as of structures and the impact these changes have had on architectural education.

Key Words: pedagogy, paradigm shift, systemic structures.
